Alan Hayward
1943 - 2021
Alan combined a life-long interest in photography with a fascination for science and the natural world. He began his career as a physics teacher and became a professional photographer.
By getting close to his subjects he hoped to reveal their essential character in a way that the Japanese poem format “haiku” seeks to reveal the essence of its subject. So, he aspired to make his pictures ‘visual haiku’.
Alan exhibited in Australia and India, as well as the U.K. He printed his own work, using a large format printer, on watercolour paper and canvas.
His wife, Mary Hayward, continues to print his images in the same way.
